SITE PREP

Why does site preparation matter?

Site preparation is crucial for the successful installation and longevity of a shed for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures a stable foundation, which is essential for the shed's structural integrity. A level and compacted surface help prevent shifting, settling, or unevenness, which can compromise the shed's stability over time. Secondly, proper site preparation protects the shed from environmental factors such as water damage, soil erosion, and uneven settling.

This can extend the shed's lifespan and reduce the need for repairs or replacements. Additionally, site preparation enhances safety by clearing the area of debris, checking for underground utilities, and creating a safer environment for workers and homeowners during installation. Moreover, it maximizes functionality by positioning the shed in an optimal location, providing easy access and proper drainage. Lastly, site preparation ensures compliance with local building codes and regulations, avoiding potential fines or legal issues. Overall, investing time and effort into site preparation upfront is essential for a successful shed installation and long-term satisfaction.

4 steps for site preparation

STEP 1

Clear Debris

Irrespective of the shed's planned location on your property, the initial task is to remove any debris present, including

  • Trees and Shrubs

  • Machinery and equipment

  • Rocks

This stage often entails significant effort, particularly in disposing of the cleared debris. Depending on the volume of foliage or debris, you may opt to employ heavy machinery or enlist the assistance of specialist contractors. Following the removal of large debris, a thorough inspection of the site surface is essential to identify and remove smaller objects such as rocks and rubble. This step is crucial, particularly if considering pouring a concrete slab foundation, as it necessitates a clean and level surface.

STEP 2

Site Levelling

Another essential aspect of preparing for shed construction is ensuring that your site is level and even. This not only streamlines the building process but also enhances the stability of the shed once constructed. In cases where the site is sloped or irregular, excavators can be utilized to remove and relocate the necessary surface dirt, followed by the use of mechanical compacting machines for each layer.

Due to lack of equipment or expertise to perform this task independently, it may be prudent to enlist the services of a local contractor. These professionals typically possess the necessary tools and expertise to complete the job efficiently, often utilizing specialized equipment like laser levels to ensure precise and accurate results within a short timeframe.

STEP 3

Base Material Installation

When installing base materials, Heritage Structure follows a meticulous process to ensure a stable foundation for shed structures. First, the site is excavated to the required depth, taking into account factors like drainage and leveling. Depending on the specific requirements and shed design, either gravel or concrete pads are chosen as the base material. For gravel installation, a layer of crushed stone or gravel is spread evenly and compacted to create a firm surface.

STEP 4

Shed Placing On Site

Once the base material installation is complete, the shed is carefully positioned on the prepared site. Heritage Structure employs precise techniques to ensure proper alignment and placement of the shed structure. Using specialized equipment and experienced personnel, the shed is lifted and placed onto the base material with precision and accuracy. During this process, attention is paid to factors such as leveling, orientation, and clearance to ensure optimal functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Additionally, Heritage Structure considers any specific site requirements or preferences provided by the customer to ensure complete satisfaction with the shed placement. By placing the shed on the site with care and precision, Heritage Structure ensures that customers receive a functional, durable, and visually appealing storage solution tailored to their
